This video explains Honda Automatic Transmission Operation. Unlike conventional automatics, Honda uses a manual gear box and shifts it Automatically!


The hydraulic configuration and priciples remain the same as a conventional automatic transmission however, they use their 'Constant Mesh' transmission.  It's kind of INGENIOUS the way they do it and most likely the precursor to the current  DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) currently used in LeMans Racing, Audi's & VW's.

The content is old but it is still the same way they do it today.

Those who are familiar with a manual transmission's configuration & operation will just simply say WTF!
